What if I'm interested in forming another team for a level that is very full? A second team (same level, same league) may only formed if the first team is filled entirely with Eastmoor members and has become so large that players are scheduled for less than 50% of the matches. A good rule of thumb in considering if a new team is viable, is that you should be able to field the minimum required (see chart below for minimum rosters), plus two players. Captains should give priority to Eastmoor members in terms of participation and play time. You must have approval from the Tennis Committee as additional teams may not be formed if their formation will cause court availability issues.
What is the minimum number of players a team can have on the roster? The Eastmoor minimum is the USTA requirement for that league plus 2 players. At some NTRP levels, captains should expect to have more than that minimum, see the chart above for the roster limits, both minimum and maximum.
What if a team cannot be filled with "at-level" NTRP Eastmoor players? In the event that a captain can't fill a team with Eastmoor members playing at their assigned NTRP level, the captain may ask the tennis committee for assistance in filling those spots. Two options include allowing a player to "play up" or inviting an at-level non-member to play on the team.
Playing up is at the discretion of the Eastmoor tennis committee and is determined by an open discussion with the lower team about players interested in playing up and an analysis of interested players' ITF world tennis number and success at current level. Selection of player/s is determined by the tennis committee. The USTA requires that 75% of a team roster must be "at level".
As a general rule, Eastmoor players participate on league teams at their assigned NTRP level.
As another option, the tennis committee may consider asking non-members to join the team. At-level non-members may only be added to Eastmoor teams to meet the minimum required roster number. Priority shall be given to players who are on the current Eastmoor waitlist. This invitation is at the discretion of the Eastmoor tennis committee. A team must be comprised of 80% Eastmoor members. *Note: non-members pay a higher fee than members for league play.
